Hospitality looks a lot like discipleship and that means food!

The Gospel of Luke is one of my favorite places to read about Jesus. As my husband says, Jesus is either on his way to eat, eating, or talking about food in this account of his life. I love that. As a person who has been in food service both formally and informally my whole life; I grew up in a family of eight on the mission field where every meal was restaurant-size quantities; I love seeing how much Jesus used such a normal, basic thing in our life, like food and hunger, to reveal himself to us.

Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty” (John 6:35 NIV). Our New Covenant is based on Jesus alone. And Jesus doesn’t have to provide manna anymore like He did in the Old Testament; He is our bread of life and He quenches our thirst with living water.

So are we selfishly guzzling His precious gift or are we turning around and offering it to the next thirsty person behind us?

WHY WE  DO HOSPITALITY

I Corinthians 10:31 "So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."

Matthew 28:18-20  "Then Jesus came to them and said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Acts 2:42  "And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers."
